The Witterlist - 2nd March 2018

It might be cold outside, but this week's Witterlist is hot, hot hot! We'd suggest blowing on it before giving it a read, just in case you burn your eyes (it's exactly this kind of top-tier content that makes this week's Witterlist such a sizzler. So strap in).

If you missed last week's highlights, you can go back and read it now by clicking the link below - it's worth it just for the sizeable discussion on Cliff Richard.

The Interview

David Oyelowo interviewed by Simon Mayo

David Oyelowo talks to Simon Mayo about his new film, Gringo.

David Oyelowo was in talking to Simon about his new film, Gringo, a crime comedy that sees David harnessing his funny side, singing 'Gettin' Jiggy Wit It' and being approached with a needle "that you wouldn't put into a cow". Mark will review the film on next week's show.

Mark's reviews

Red Sparrow reviewed by Mark Kermode

Mark Kermode reviews Red Sparrow.

Red Sparrow is a new thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence as a ballet dancer who is dragged into the world of international espionage. Mark's no stranger to a bit of nasty behaviour when it comes to films, but even he was taken aback by the level of violence on display here.

A Fantastic Woman reviewed by Mark Kermode

Mark Kermode reviews A Fantastic Woman.

A Fantastic Woman is the Chilean film up for Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Oscars, and judging by Mark's rapturous review, it could be in with a very good chance of taking home the prize.

The Nile Hilton Incident reviewed by Mark Kermode

Mark Kermode reviews The Nile Hilton Incident.

Already a prize winner is The Nile Hilton Incident, which won the grand jury prize for a dramatic film in the world cinema section at Sundance last year. A thriller set amongst murder and corruption, it might be harder to find screenings than some of the bigger films this week, but it's well worth seeking out.

Game Night reviewed by Mark Kermode

Mark Kermode reviews Game Night.

From the makers of Horrible Bosses and the Vacation remake, you might think you know exactly what Mark would say about new comedy Game Night, but surprisingly (to himself more than anyone) he found it to be a lot of fun.

Mom And Dad reviewed by Mark Kermode

Mark Kermode reviews Mom And Dad.

Speaking of surprises, here's another one for you: Mom And Dad isn't out until 9th March, but we've got such a jam-packed programme for you next Friday (details below) that Mark decided to review the film this week. Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair play parents who find themselves inexplicably compelled to kill their own children in this pitch-black comedy horror. As with the best horror tales, it has an underlying message about the state of the world today, but more importantly it gives us the opportunity to see Nic go full Cage. RIP one pool table.

Next week

Next week's show has a double-bill of top guests with Rooney Mara talking to Simon about her new film, Mary Magdalene and Sir Michael Caine live in the studio to discuss new documentary My Generation.

As if all that wasn't enough excitement for one week, the Oscars are of course taking place on Sunday. With that in mind, Mark took the time to run through each of the Best Picture nominees and tell us which he thinks will win.
