Location: All workshops on Sunday February 18th will take place at Midlands Arts Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Queen’s Ride, Birmingham B12 9QH

11am-12.15pm: How to Make Your Mark in The Industry: Women in Media (All Female Panel)

Today, women’s career choices are far more diverse than they were for our grandmothers but how can we continue that progression in broadcasting? With this panel of female bosses we’ll focus on how to secure success in radio and music and how to push that envelope even further. Asian Network's Harpz Kaur and industry insiders from producers to DJs reveal how they dream big but stay true to themselves.

12.30pm-1.45pm: How to Market Yourself: Digital Branding and Social Media

Many aspiring artist don’t understand how digital platforms and social media can help them succeed when used in the right way. In this session lead by Asian Network's Yasser, we will hear from a range of special guests, from social media coach Ayaz Hussain, Charlie Sloth’s right hand man, Sideman, and the team at GRM Daily, all sharing their top tips on helping artists of any kind to build their reputation.

1.45pm-2.45pm: Careers Behind The Mic

Come and hear from the team of hidden talent behind your favourite presenters and shows. Working in radio is full of challenges but also highly rewarding with countless creative opportunities. From production to visualisation, online to marketing, what exactly are these jobs and how can you get your foot in the door?

2pm-3.45pm: How To Get Your Music Heard

When you hear a new tune on the radio you may think that the artist is lucky to get there. Our guests will reveal that luck has nothing to do with it! In reality it’s the result of meticulous planning from record labels, high strategy from music radio bosses and calculated risks for the artists themselves. It’s a complex and fascinating process and Asian Network’s Music Editor, BBC Introducing and industry pluggers will be giving us the secrets to getting a song on the radio. After an introductory panel, it’s over to you! Bring your music on your phone or a memory stick for a chance to have a segment played out to the room and get live feedback from the panel!

3-4pm: How To Present Like A Pro

Presenting is not as easy as just standing in front of a microphone and reading a script. Staying on top of your game takes work and planning. Come and hear Asian Network’s Harpz Kaur and BBC West Midland’s Richie Anderson in conversation as they give their top tips on how best to prepare for interviews, how they deal with nerves and how to stand out in a crowded market!

4-5pm: Finish On A Punch Line: Presenting and Storytelling Workshop

When you hear your favourite presenter on the radio, do you ever wonder how they talk so effortlessly? Here’s a chance to find out, by coming along and jumping in our “on the road” hot seat! Grab a chance to sit with one of our radio producers, who can talk you through all the do’s and don'ts of presenting. Could you be the next Yasser or Harpz Kaur?

4.00-5.30pm: How To Make Money From Music

Join in with Bobby Friction's session to hear how you can make your music into a business, from getting your music played on air to claiming royalties. Industry experts from PRS, Punch and BE83 Artists give you the knowledge and information needed on How To Make Money From Music.

Comedy Writers Workshop - Saturday 17th February, BBC Mailbox.

BBC Writersroom and BBC Asian Network are joining forces to develop and produce six short films, written by you, as part of Asian Network Live 2018.

If you’re an aspiring writer and think you can write a funny story that celebrates both the city of Birmingham and Asian youth culture, then this is aimed directly at you! This is your chance to bring bold and original comedy ideas to life, develop fresh characters and have your words performed and filmed by professionals.
