Can you fill in these missing classic song lyrics?
The late, great Ella Fitzgerald is known and loved for her work on the Great American Songbook, a legacy celebrated in 2017's Prom 27 – Ella and Dizzy: A Centenary Tribute.
Hailed as the First Lady of Song, Ella recorded more than 200 albums in her extensive career and was the first African-American woman to win a Grammy. Her recordings of songs by greats like Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin and Jerome Kern aren’t just a pleasure to hear and to sing; they also contain some of the most gloriously witty marriages of music and words ever committed to score.
You can probably hum along to many of Ella's classic recordings – but how well do you know their wonderfully witty lyrics? Test yourself with our quiz.
