Campervan conversion tips

On 21st November 2025, Rip Off Britain looked at cases of campervan conversions which did not go to plan. In HQ, Martyn gave his top tips on what to consider before handing over money for a campervan conversion.

• Visit the Campervan Converter Association website, https://cvcassociation.com/, and check if the company is part of the trade association. It has a code of practice for all of the people who are its members, and a mediation service.
• Get recommendations from campervan users
• Before handing over any money, look into taking out a campervan conversion insurance policy that will cover you through the whole process.
• Visit the DVLA website which has guidance about how they expect conversions to be carried out to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan
• Get a contract which sets out everything you need, delays, disputes and deadline for completion.
• Pay on credit or debit card, and be suspicious of companies which won’t take these forms of payment.
