Passionate about radio? Curious about music? Whether you’ve considered working at the BBC or not thought about it until now, BBC Open Music is here to help you find out if this could be your path.
BBC Open Music brings creatives and musicians of all genres, styles and backgrounds from across the UK to the BBC; designed to develop new skills whilst exploring collaborations and ideas across orchestral and classical music broadcasting at the BBC.
We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to join us. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity. We welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief.
You must be over 18 to attend a BBC Open Music Insight Day or become a trainee.
BBC Open Music Trainee Scheme
BBC Open Music trainee scheme will offer 15 people a 6-month training and development programme focussing on either Radio and Live Event Production or Technical Production (sound recording and engineering). Trainees will complete 20 paid days of training, masterclasses and hands-on experience, in addition to receiving a mentor and the chance to network and build contacts across Radio and Music at the BBC.

BBC Open Music Insight Days
The BBC Open Music Insight Days will offer a chance to:
- Visit a BBC base and find out more about careers in radio and music
- Meet and network with inspirational industry professionals
- Find out about the BBC Open Music scheme and other early careers opportunities, plus get tips for applying
We will be running Insight Days at the below locations:
- 04/12/2025 – BBC The Mailbox, Birmingham (no longer accepting expressions of interest)
- 13/01/2026 – BBC Pacific Quay, Glasgow (no longer accepting expressions of interest)
- 22/01/2026 – BBC MediaCityUK, Salford (no longer accepting expressions of interest)
- 04/02/2026 – BBC London Broadcasting House, London (no longer accepting expressions of interest)
- 10/02/2026 – BBC Blackstaff House, Belfast
- 23/02/2026 – BBC Cardiff Central Square, Cardiff
If you would like to join us and find out more please complete the expression of interest form to let us know which Insight Day you would be interested in attending.
There are limited spaces available and you can only apply for one Insight Day, so please ensure that you select the location closest to you and that you are available to attend on the listed date.
The timings for the Insight Days will vary but please make sure you are available 1100-1600. For Belfast please make sure you are available 1400-1600. Exact timings will be confirmed once places are allocated.
The places for Insight Days will be randomly allocated and anyone not selected will be added to a waitlist. Please ensure you complete the form at least 2 weeks before the Insight Day, as expressions of interest made after this may not be considered.
