Wolf By Wolf by Ryan Graudin

About the Book

This is an exciting new page turner for Young Adult Readers.

The year is 1956, and the Axis powers of the Third Reich and Imperial Japan rule the world. To commemorate their Great Victory over Britain and Russia, Hitler and Emperor Hirohito host the Axis Tour: an annual motorcycle race across their conjoined continents. The victor is awarded an audience with the highly reclusive Adolf Hitler at the Victor’s Ball.

Yael, who escaped from a death camp, has one goal: Win the race and kill Hitler. A survivor of painful human experimentation, Yael has the power to skinshift and must complete her mission by impersonating last year’s only female victor, Adele Wolfe. This deception becomes more difficult when Felix, Adele’s twin brother, and Luka, her former love interest, enter the race and watch Yael’s every move. But as Yael begins to get closer to the other competitors, can she bring herself to be as ruthless as she needs to be to avoid discovery and complete her mission?

About the Author

Ryan was born and raised by the sea in Charleston, South Carolina. She grew up on a steady diet of fairytales, salt-marshes, music and brothers who would reenact Redwall battles with her in the backyard. She went to an artsy sort of school that allowed cello recitals in the hallways and impromptu poetry slams in the canteen. It was there she decided that writing was what she wanted to do more than anything.

And so she did. Ryan went to the College of Charleston and graduated in 2009 with a degree in Creative Writing. Once graduated, she met the love of her life and got married when she was 21. Together, they started traveling the world and never really stopped.

Ryan has taught English in South Korea, farmed in New Zealand, hiked through Peru and spied on lions in Kenya, to name but a few things.

She still lives close to the sea, with her husband and wolf-dog.

Q&A

When I write I like to...

...have a steaming mug of coffee or tea by my elbow and the perfect playlist pumping through my headphones.

The book that inspire me to write must have been...

...Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. I read this lovely re-telling of the Cinderella story when I was twelve. As soon as I put the book down, I wanted to read the sequel, except…there was no sequel! I was so moved by Ella’s story, that I then decided to write my own version of a fairy tale. The result was a sixty-page fledgling novel.

My speciality in the kitchen is...

...anything I set my mind to really. I love trying new food, and often try to emulate recipes of dishes I enjoyed during our time in South Korea.

My current view is of...

...the white curtains of World Market that hang in my dining room and my wolf-dog frolicking in yard’s many unraked leaves.

One of my favourite writers is...

...Maggie Stiefvater because... she is always producing original, beautifully written stories. I’ve been a fan of her since 2009, when our stories appeared in a magazine together, and it’s been really fun to watch her career grow since then. Both Shiver and Scorpio Races challenged me to up my own writing game!!

One thing people don't know about me is...

...I was a competitive synchronized swimmer in high school.

The thing I love most about words is...

...their power. Words have the ability to transport readers into the mind and experience of another, and therefore cultivate empathy. Words can change the world.
