Young Performers...

Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians
What have you enjoyed about the Ten Pieces project?

Yasmine: I have enjoyed working with other students and learning the musical techniques whilst having fun.
What are you most looking forward to about performing at the Ten Pieces Proms?
Yasmine: I am looking forward to hearing our composition being played on the radio and hearing how far it has come.
Michael: I am looking forward to performing in front of such a big audience and listening to all of the other pieces of music and art that have made it in to the Ten Pieces and I’m looking forward to hearing their creative responses as well as our own.
How do you feel about performing in front of so many people? Are you nervous?
Yasmine:I am nervous but feel it is a great opportunity and I feel people should hear what you can achieve.
Michael:I am feeling very nervous about it but I feel that this will be a big milestone in my life and it will boost my confidence to do other things in the future.
Able Orchestra
What have you enjoyed about the Ten Pieces project?

Del: I've enjoyed the whole experience of working with new people, learning new skills and developing my piano playing skills further. Putting the whole piece together and performing alongside the Halle.
Megan: Meeting professional musicians was inspiring. I enjoyed actually being a part of the composing process of a piece that sounded amazing in the final performance.
What are you most looking forward to about performing at the Ten Pieces Proms?
Del:I'm looking forward to playing alongside a world class orchestra in a world famous concert hall!
Megan:This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to actually play at the Royal Albert Hall with such an amazing orchestra!
How do you feel about performing in front of so many people. Are you nervous?
Megan: I'm quite nervous but more excited!
Del:I'm more excited than nervous - I can't explain how excited! I'm a little bit nervous but I will concentrate on the music rather than the fact that it is the largest audience that I have ever performed to. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the performance is actually on my birthday - this is the biggest and best birthday present ever!
Animate Orchestra
What have you enjoyed about the Ten Pieces project?

Mia: The Ten Pieces project was exciting. I learned about 'Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra' composed by Gabriel Prokofiev. We listened to the 5th movement and watched the Trinity Laban Orchestra play with DJ Switch listening to his incredible turntable solo. I enjoyed watching the beginning of the piece when the orchestra performed as there were bold contrasts between the bass notes and the turntables. Gabriel Prokofiev was in the audience when we played which was very cool. I also took part in another Ten Pieces project at my school, Dunraven. I learned about 'Toccata and Fugue' by Bach. We used body percussion to create a small performance, that was an interesting way to learn the piece. At the end we played out the melody with bells giving us another way to expand our knowledge of the tune.
What are you most looking forward to about performing at the Ten Pieces Proms?
Nii: I’m looking forward to watching lots of other people perform and seeing how it’s all going to turn out in the end. Last time I performed with Animate at the Royal Festival Hall, I loved the way it turned out compared to the original song we used as our inspiration. Every single Animate is always different.
Mia:I am mostly looking forward to playing the piece and meeting the fantastic musicians also performing in such a great venue. It will be the first time I will have played at such a world renowned concert hall and I am only 13! I am playing my saxophone in the performance and will not have to worry about squeaking on the clarinet.
How do you feel about performing in front of so many people. Are you nervous?
Mia:I am definitely nervous but excited too. I have performed at school and other venues, even at the Royal Festival Hall where we first played this piece. So, I am used to appearing in front of an audience but I have never played to such a large crowd before. Maybe I will be more nervous when I arrive at the hall. It sounded great when we played the piece at Easter, everybody loved it. So I'm hoping that it will sound even better after we practice.
Nii: No. I want people to see how good I am at something and how I’ve been improving.
Wildern School
What have you enjoyed about the Ten Pieces project?

Phoebe:I have enjoyed working with Denni and making new friends as we choreograph. Creating a piece with such different and diverse music (that we are not used to working with) has been so much fun and it has challenged us to be more creative and taught us to listen deeper into the music in order the make our piece more innovative and interesting for the audience.
Abi: I am most looking forward to being able to showing the school dance departments work and being able to perform somewhere different in front of lots of different people who will enjoy watching our work and it is an amazing opportunity that I will never forget.
How do you feel about performing in front of so many people. Are you nervous?
Phoebe: I am so excited to be performing at the Royal Albert Hall but I am still nervous to be dancing in front of so many people. We as a group think that it is good to be nervous because it will drive us to do well and we know our adrenalin will kick in to make us put in all our energy in our dance! However, our nerves should go away and we will enjoy every moment of performing in such a beautiful theatre.
