What's going on with Katy Perry's Rise video?

Has the idea for Katy Perry’s new video been nicked from somewhere?

There’s been a lot of talk about it being copied. But it hasn’t alright?!

Katy Perry is back in a big way. Her single Rise is one of the biggest ballads of 2016 and the video is spectacular.

But some people think the video is a bit familiar, including Nick Jonas' dad, who says the video is "identical" to Parachute by Olivia Somerlyn, an artist he manages.

Here's Katy's Rise video.

And here's Olivia's Parachute video.

Pink parachute? Check.

Rise was directed by Paul Gore and his spokesperson has released a statement, which claims "the filmmakers created a video for Katy Perry having never before seen the other video. Any similarity is pure coincidence."

The similiarities between the two videos may have angered Mr Jonas but the director of Olivia's video, Ryan Pallotta, has also shrugged off the criticism.

“It’s just a parachute – there are lots of them in prop houses and I would chalk this up to coincidence.”

"It's just a parachute". That's a eye-rolling brush off we plan to use ourselves, daily.
