How we made it: The flame bowerbird's stage performance

To film most of our stories our crews took a traditional approach – the one that involves grit and patience.

In order to capture the dazzling, courtship display of the little-known Flame Bowerbird the crew first had to reach a remote forest in Papua New Guinea, a 6-hour boat journey from the nearest town. Then began the challenge of finding and filming a bird.
