Lauren Laverne's 5 songs you should hear this week - w/e 13 October
Every day we play you a track that has just landed on our laps. As soon as we hear it, we send it into the digital ether for you all to enjoy. Sometimes it's an exclusive, sometimes it's a favourite artist and, other times, it'll be a brand new artist. Here's this week's choice selection. Just hit the links to see the full Just Added playlist:

As we started the first week of October with 6 Music Live there was no Just Added, so we’re catching up with a few nice tracks we missed. This number appeared online last week. They are a Norwegian duo Henriette and Catharina, now based in Denmark. It’s their second release on XL Recordings, following ‘Oh My My’. STILL no sign of an album though. As usual, the track was produced and programmed by the duo who cite Jessy Lanza and the late DJ Rashad as influences.
On Tuesday brand new Django Django appeared online, taking alliteration to another level. This track is taken from their new album Marble Skies to be released on 26th January via Because Music. The album was recorded at Urchin Studios in Tottenham, London with Metronomy drummer Anna Prior. After ten days of recording, they had lots of material for drummer / producer Dave Maclean (then back in his hometown of Dundee) to edit and refine. David also recently worked with Rebecca from Slow Club’s new outfit Self Esteem. Only one thing to do for now, get tip tap toeing with tic tac toe (sorry).
For mid-week hump, we added this new Floating Point track to our Just Added playlist. Admittedly this was released late last week, but we’re catching up with ourselves after 6 Music Live. Please forgive us. The brand new music comes courtesy of London producer and neuroscientist, Sam Shepherd (AKA Floating Points). The full version is 19 minutes long (!) and will be released in full 19th October. It follows 2015’s debut album Elaenia, and last year’s Reflections, featuring tracks recorded in the Mojave Desert.
Hamilton Leithauser With Angel Olsen - Heartstruck (Wild Hunger)
This appeared online this Thursday morning and made its way straight on to Just Added. There are lots of good collaborations around at the minute including Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile. This is another. It follows Hamilton Leithauser’s collaborative album with Vampire Weekend’s Rostam I Had a Dream That You Were Mine, and Angel Olsen’s My Woman, both released last year. Hamilton Leithauser was in the Walkmen, and has obviously been listening to a lot of early classic soul. He says of the track: “This song is about catching yourself off guard when an emotion hits a little harder than you were ready for. It’s a desperate and funny situation. The desperation can be a little bit ridiculous, which can be a little bit funny, but it’s also desperate, so it’s agonizing.”
The Go! Team - Semicircle Song
And the final Just Added of the week comes from The Go! Team. They never fail to disappoint and the newly announced album Semicircle sounds like a spectacle of brass and good-time vibes. It's released on 19th January on Memphis Industries and features the likes of Amber Arcades, the Detroit Youth Choir, and rapper Ninja. It's been a while since 2015's The Scene Between, and band leader Ian Parton says of the track: “"I was trying to take the Technicolor feel of a marching band into a more psychedelic place, reclaiming that sound from patriotic or sporty rubbish and harnessing its toughness and power. Brass which takes your head off, bouncy xylophones, offbeat handclaps and toms hopping in the gaps - I hoped it would be recognizably The Go! Team but unlike any song we'd done before."
