About the 6 Music Festival 2015

Line-up Update: 19/2/15

Jon Hopkins was due to play Sunday night on the Concourse at the Sage Gateshead - as part of the 6 Music Festival.

For those of you going - or if you who were looking forward to hearing his set or watching it on the Red Button - we found out earlier that he's had to pull out due to illness.

What this means is that The Maccabees will now top the bill on the Concourse; Teleman will headline Hall 2 and we're delighted to say that local hero, Nadine Shah, will be joining us as one of Sunday night's opening acts at the 6 Music Festival.

About the Festival

Following the success of last year's inaugural BBC Radio 6 Music Festival at The Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, we're going to do it all again, bigger and better, for 2015.

This year we're heading to Newcastle upon Tyne and featuring an ever-growing bill of over 50 bands and artists, with three days of live music and conversation, reflecting the spirit of 6 Music.

These will take place across several venues, both day and night.

6 Music Festival by Night consists of Friday night at the O2 Academy Newcastle and Saturday and Sunday night at the Sage, Gateshead.

With over 40 artists across six stages over three nights, the events bring together an impressive line-up of established acts and emerging artists who represent the very best alternative music of the moment.

Additionally there will be loads of 6 Music Festival by Day events in venues in The Ouseburn and Stephenson Quarter areas of the city, on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February from 11am-6pm.

Mary Anne Hobbs will be hosting 6 Music Festival Late, happening after hours on Saturday 21 February and featuring Jamie xx, Four Tet and Gilles Peterson.

How to Watch and Listen

If you were unable to get a ticket – don’t fear!

  • BBC Radio 6 Music will be broadcasting from the festival across the weekend with the network’s presenters coming live from all the venues, day and night. The station will air many of the performances live from 02 Academy Newcastle and Sage Gateshead, with others recorded and aired in shows later in the week and on future dates.

  • We'll be running a Live Blog from Friday at 5pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from midday. Catch up on the latest news and photos both plus join in using #6musicfestival.

  • And if that's not enough, BBC Red Button will be showing highlights fromthe festival starting from Friday night. See the full schedule on the right >>
