Sixteen members of the Parachute Regiment died in the attack and two from the Queen's Own Highlanders. The paras returned to Warrenpoint the following day to salute the dead. Peter Stubbs said: "They were just young lads, trying to keep the peace in a place where everyone hated you, no matter how hard you tried to please".
