The BBC soon realised its correspondents would need portable recorders to report from the front. The "Midget Recorder" was developed by engineers at the BBC in collaboration with Marguerite Sound Studios in time for D-Day in 1944. They weighed 35 lb and recorded sound onto double-sided 10-inch discs. Pictured is recording engineeer CD Adamson.
