It's the dream movie role - the chance to play a Bond girl. And Rachel Grant, who grew up in Nottingham, has just fulfilled that dream. She's about to be seen by millions of people across the world as the strangely named, Peaceful Fountains of Desire, a deadly assasin in the 20th Bond film, Die Another Day. Not that we want to give the game away but her target appears to be 007 - so the chances are she'll be bedded then deaded, but, hey, what a way to go. Rachel Louise Grant de Longeuil, to give her her full name, was born in the Phillippines but moved to Nottingham as a child. Her mother worked here as a theatrical costumier although Rachel's apparently distantly related to British royalty. After attending drama school she got her big break on television as a dancer on Top of the Pops. Since then there's been no holding her back. Advertisers have fallen in love with her looks - she's been the face of Vidal Sassoon, and helped sell chocolate bars and men's deodorants. Die Another Day isn't her first movie outing. She's had parts in Long Time Dead, 12 Rillington Place and Masters of Combat. Most people would say the chance of getting close to Pierce "007" Brosnan would be the career ultimate. But Christmas 2001 wasn't far behind for Rachel. She played Tanya in the Christmas special "Emmerdale Revenge" playing opposite Chris Chittel aka Eric Pollard. Well, he's Bondish. Big ish accepted! Having played a Bond girl you might think Rachel would take it easy for a while. But the work's continuing to pile in. She presents an in-flight documentary on the airline Cathay Pacific and she's been filming another movie Keen Eddie. Oh, and she's going to release a single before Christmas. Even Bond would have trouble keeping up with these assignments. See more of Nottingham's Bond girl in our Rachel Grant photo gallery >> |
