Minority Report And so Speilberg returns with another memorable experience on-screen. Mix Speilberg's prowess with an excellent and innovative stroyline - one that constantly twists and digresses - and you have a sure recipe for what should be a great film. And great film it is. Though the plot is foremost, one cannot ignore the sheer effort that has gone into realising the futuristic world as the film's setting. Everything from the vertically-driving cars to police's jetpacks. It immerses you, though it should be noted that such a world is far, far premature considering the film's set just 50 years from today! My stance would be that the plot alone is compelling enough to see the film. An overpriced cinema can be forgiven just this once, since this is a must-see. But do be warned, whilst the plot is enough, anti-sci-fi visitors will be put off. This is total and complete sci-fi in every sense. Men In Black II Save your money for another rainy day movie. MIB II is the first movie all over again, except this time they short-changed the laughs, characters and plot. The female characters are totally forgettable. Lara Flynn Boyle plays Serleena (no relation, Im sure), alledgedly a universal badass who just happens to take the form of a playboy model on earth because thats what we earthlings like to see. O.k. I could swallow that notion (its been done to death, but o.k.) except that shes NOT a bad ass. In fact, double Ds aside, shes boring. Her dialogue is mainly monosyllabic, and when she does utter a sentence it is normally some variation of Ill destroy you meddling earthling. Gee, Ive never heard that uttered in a sci-fi movie before. Shes flat (character-wise) and about as scary as the Good Humor guy. The other female, Wills love interest, is cute, but lacking in the personality department as well. I imagine they auditioned quite a few women for this role and this non-emotive chyck was the one they picked? But maybe its not either ladies fault, maybe its the Swiss cheese size holes in the plot. This is a movie searching for an identity: do I want to be a drama/a comedy/a sci-fi spoof? Meanwhile, it lobs out a few Will Smith asides in the hopes that the audience will be distracted. Unfortunately for both Smith and MIB II, hes just not as funny in this one. Its like Agent J redux and all his angry black man rants just sound tired. I mean its been five years, but most of us remember the first MIB movie pretty well, mainly because it blew us away. MIB took an urban legend and rocked it with the charisma of Tommy Lee (badass numero uno) and the funniness/equally badassness of Will Smith. Add a dose of the unforgettable Linda Florentino, coupled with excellent storytelling and a tight, satirical script and bam! You get a genre-busting film. MIB was refreshing, wistfully nostalgic about the power of the sci-fi genre, and redolent of the magic that wa! s ! the original Star Wars trilogy. The best parts of MIB II are the trailers on TV. There is a 15-minute animated short preceding the movie, “The ChubChubs,” which offers more satire on sci-fi than the movie. (Look for the Alien at the bar among others). However, even its simple, cute plot reminded me of the 80’s camp classic “Critters.” I guess there really is nothing new, no matter what sun you’re under. Scary Movie 2 Man! I loved Scary Movie 2 because of yhe humor, insanity, and crazy characters. My favorite is Shorty! He is a funny, dysfunctional pothead who keeps me laughing throughout the entire movie. They really did a great job bringing his character to the movie!!! Bend It Like Beckham I love Kiera Knightly James Elliott Sydney IT WAS AN AWSOME MOVIE!! I'd give it 5 outta 5!! I absolutely loved it!! vidhya australia I thought the review of Bend it like Beckham was unfair and every bias. i feel the revier went into the film with many expectation of the director and couldn't see the film from the angle it was to be portrayed. i thought this was one of the best films i've seen since East is East and i would like to see more films with the cleverness of both Bend it like Beckham and East is East more often.
Andria Whelan Sydney, Australia When entering the theatre i was actually quite embarassed. Going to see a movie about women's soccer? What was I thinking? My friend and I had originally gone to see Blade 2 but had been denied due to age. Because of this we were forced to see a brilliant film with just a few minor faults. Keira Knightly is brilliant and her mother Stevenson produces some great one-liners. The only possible problem i could find with this film is the repetativeness of the problems Jess faces. Overall i think her parents found out about her footballing career, what, 6 times? Also my girlfriend found Joe the Coach very good looking which cant be good. Josh Gerrard Sydney, Australia I don't know why everyone is saying such bad things about this film. I myself have seen it three times and found it to be very inspiring, humorous and witty. I have, after seeing the film, joined my local women's football club. I also do not know why everyone is making such a fuss about how it doesn't portrey the feeling of Asian's in England. I am an Indian girl and I feel I go through exactly the same problems as Jess, although to do with other things such as going to parties. I think that my mother, after seeing the film, understands what it feels like for me to not be able to do certain things and is becoming much more understanding. I rate the film 10 out of 10!!!! Ruhie It was a great film and my whole family loved the whole movie. We dont know what you are talking about and we think the rating of the film should not be 2/5 but instead 5/5!!! there was NOTHING wrong with the film. Long Time Dead Plot: Very Bad - No plot at all Cast Performance: Poor - No cast at all. Gwyne Singapore This is such a brilliant film. I just don't understand why it got so badly slated. It should be 5/5, the only fault i can think of being the ending could have been improved..as in, they could have showed the actual demon. Apart from that, I must admit, I'm a 16 year old boy, and i was 15 years old when i saw it, but it still scared the heck out of me! It made me jump frequently in my seat, which is embarassing, but that has never happened to me ever before for any film and so, I have to say, this film is definitely worth watching on dvd or video. DEFINITELY. It is British as well, with a fine performance from the British actors, so it is worth watching. Vivek Pillai Croydon, London, England What do you think Read our review of this film |
The Parole Officer I think that the parole Officer is a highly amusing and hillarious film. Steve Coogan is a brilliantly portraits Simon and his geeky appearance gives us the impression that Simon is a loner and a bit of a freak. Minority Report I have to disagree with Neil Heath on this one. MR is definitely NOT as good as Bladerunner, and the ending is completely ruined by another Speilberg butcher job. In fact, the movie should not even be classified as film-noir. It would more accurately be filed under "film almost-noir", or perhaps under the whole new category of "Speilberged" -- a term for otherwise solid movies which have been absolutely wrecked with untenable and badly handled endings. In my opinion, the film had come to a perfectly satisfying close with Anderton's arrest, but NO, Speilberg HAD to tack on a happy ending. Possibly, the American audience are too tasteless to appreciate a truly dark ending but that is really no excuse for the last 10 minutes of the movie. Now, there's alot to commend in Minority Report, and it is obvious that Speilberg has learnt a huge amount about film-making from the AI experience. In fact, most of Minority Report looks and feels alot like a Kubrik film and that is in itself no small compliment, but never put this movie in the same category as Bladerunner. (Note: I am of course referring to the director's cut version of Bladerunner, which does have a truly great ending). NY Kwok, Australia What do you think Read our review of this film |
Killing Me Softly I think this was one of the best british films i have seen for a long time. Even including the SKA films. If this had been packaged by the US it would have been given a much higher profile. And no, I am not a teenager. I am a 42 year old woman who, unlike the obviously intelligent previous reviewer, I did not guess the end and I was p***ing in my pants most of the way through. Each to their own. Kate and Leopold Firstly, I would like to appologitze, cause my english is not so good, but I've seen the movie Kate and Leopold and I simply need to share my opinion to anyone who is reading it. I enjoyed the film especially becouse it was so.. so... Like a fairitale. A story is so unbeliavble, but jet so realistic, that you just have to become part of it, during watching the film. And then, the actors... Another wonderfull thing that anyone have to admit after seen this film: wonderful talents - here I have to expose perhaps the greatest one, Hugh Jackman - wich makes the story even more realistic. I was absolutelly fond of music in this film, too. The composer Rolfe Kent did the great job. Also Sting with his song "Until". No negative critics- I wish all the filmakers good luck and to produce even more such extraordinary films, like tha was! Greetings from Slovenia! Monster's Ball I felt that the movie made absolutely no sense. When the movie started I was steadily asking questions, i.e "Why is Puffy in jail?" It was never mentioned. I think that they (the directors or whoever) should have provided flashbacks so that we (the veiwers) could follow the story line. And the way the movie ended was very disappointing. In a nutshell The movie was just rambling on and nver really provided a story to follow from start to end. True enough I love Halle, but she was better off getting an Oscar for Dorothy Dandridge rather than this movie, just my opinion. Jane Doe What do you think Read our review of this film |

Unfaithful Contrary to the above, I found Unfaithful quite involving & devistatingly real. Forty Days and Forty Nights I'd give this film zero out of ten. Shannyn is beautiful but if I want to ogle her then I will get a poster or something. Josh Hartnett can't act and never has put a good performance in any film yet, the film is vile, crude, fails to engage and deadly dull. Josh Hartnett is the most unlikeable male lead since Tom Cruise in Vanilla Sky, who also needed a good kicking, and he if his forehead gets any lower there won't be any room for what is probably a pea of a brain (to judge from acting skills). My girlfriend thinks he is ugly and warned me off of this film before we went in to see it, I just figured I'd seen the other two on offer. Why doesn't Hollywood start making films about real and likeable people in unglamorous jobs for a change, burglar alarm engineers or scaffolders who you can empathise with? This sort of film is enough to put you off the cinema for life! Mike, Norfolk What do you think Read our review of this film |
Thunderpants Once again Rupert Grint blows us away with his stunning prfromance. He truly can be any one he wants to be and that is exactly what we need in actors [old and young] today. From being Harry Potters bestfriend and a poor wizard he transfoms himself into a dorky genius with no sense of smell. I don't think any other thirteen year- old oculd do that! Though thunderpants wasn't a great movie it would of been terrible with out Rupert. Though this is soposed to be a review for ThunderPants Young Grint deserves this praise. A job well done on his part and the casting agent. I'd give it 3 stars. It kept your attention and it kept you laughing. Another thing Grint does well. Congradulations Rupert and congradulatioons to everyone who worked on ThunderPants. Erin Meyer Wheaton IL, USA I think rupert grint playing in thunderpants is a discrace to people kind. Patli, Brantford, UK I thought it was funny at some points, but boring at other points of the film. The best bit was when the rescue rocket was launched. Tom Nottingham UK I think that Thunderpants was brilliant, and funny too. Oh, by the way....Rupert was definately the best in the film, I thought he played the part of Alan brilliantly, and I'm very proud of him. I would give the film 5 out of 5! Waking Life Your reviewer hits the nail on the head this time but one out of ten is a bit generous. Clever, maybe; entertaining, no. Every film puts the audience in the power of the director. Willing disbelief is the deal between the two. Linklater is laughing at our expense. The distressing constant movement of every part of the screen image is meant to create the sea-sickness you might feel in the boat/car at the beginning. It works, unfortunately. And one character actually says that telling other people your dreams is boring, before proceeding to bore the pants off us for a long 5 minutes. Yes, really, this is true exploitation of the audience's trust. The Broadway can't get it right every time. Martin Gorman Nottingham What do you think Read our review of this film |
Star Wars : Episode II This film was incredible! It keeps you on the edge of your seats and craving for the Episode III. I am planning to go see it again. I was surprised when the romantic scenes weren't childish and mushy like I had expected. Throughout the movie it hints Anakin slowly turning evil, though it is hard to believe that the young Anakin actually turns into the killer Darth Vader. The movie contained no plot holes in my opinion and you see a few things that will take you back to memories of the first Star Wars movie released (Episode IV) Tiffany Granite City, USA i think that the film was awasome and i could see it 20 odd times because it was so exelant and the funneast bit was when the green guy got his lightsaver and started jumping around and the best was when they were fighting its the best film ive seen all year round. ricky dean le-tekro whitemoor nottingham What do you think Read our review of this film |
