Broadway Facts

  • The Broadway was built on the site of a 1839 Weslyan chapel, it was here that great Nottinghamian William Booth, committed his life to God.

  • The Nottingham Film Theatre opened on September 2nd 1966.

  • The first films to be shown were: James Ivory's 'Shakespeare Wallah', John Ford's 'The Grapes or Wrath' and 'The Italian Straw Hat'.

  • Broadway was born out of a consortium of local media organisations, backed by the British Film Institute, East Midlands Arts, Nottingham City Council and Notts County Council.

  • The Broadway was officially established in 1989.
