Step into an enchanted world Over the weekend of 8 and 9 May, an extraordinary expanse of air-filled architecture, known as a luminarium, will sprout almost magically from the side of Ingleborough. Powered by fans, the 40 metre by 15 metre structure will transport visitors into an enchanting world of captivating colours and soothing sounds. Once inside the fantastic inflatable , people will be free to explore a labyrinth of tunnels, mazes and spacious domes, interact with their surroundings or simply sprawl out and relax. At the end of the festival the unusual structure will be slowly deflated, leaving no trace of its existence. World premier The booking of the luminarium is a massive coup for organisers of the Clapham festival. The new 'Amozozo' luminarium was due to get its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival later this year. But Peter Huby, Project Co-ordinator of the Clapham festival, has arranged with luminaria designer Alan Parkinson for his latest creation to debut in the Dales. | Good site for a luminarium (Gareth Evans - YDNPA) |
Mr Parkinson said: "The landscape around Clapham is particularly beautiful. "Never before have we put a structure in such a remote rural location. "Logistically, it will be a bit of a challenge but the juxtaposition should be quite startling." World apart "A luminarium makes a direct impact on the senses with the radiance of light transmitted by coloured PVC," explains Mr Parkinson. "Vivid splashes of liquid colour spill across the curved walls creating a world apart from the normal and everyday. "Visitors are welcome to sit down and lie back to enjoy the structure. "In this particular location the uneven terrain of the hillside will be quite noticeable and will add to the experience." Visitor information During the Clapham festival, the luminarium is expected to be open from midday to early evening. Admission will cost between £2.50 and £3.50 per person, with special discounted family tickets also available. The two-day Clapham Festival is one of the highlights of the Yorkshire Dales National Park's 50th anniversary programme. Money raised will go to local community projects and charities.
