Even on a rainy day Scarborough's sea front can be a busy place, but just off the beaten track is another side to the town, with attractive streets leading up to the castle headland. So leave the crowds behind and learn more about what shaped the town.Scarborough has been called a 'town of vagrants' with large numbers of birds, insects, plants and people migrating to the town. You'll see a wide variety of bird-life, with Curlew, Oystercatcher, Dunlin, Kittiwake and possibly even Littleauk. There's a wide variety of native and immigrant plant-life and visiting insects such as the Hummingbird Hawk-Moth can be seen during summer months. | Getting there:
By bus: Catch the Seafront Service 109 from any stop along the sea front between Corner Cafe (North Bay) to Spa Complex (South Bay)
By car: Drive to start point, (Spa Complex Car Park) parking space is limited. Be prepared to park elsewhere and return to the start point. | | Walk conditions
The route follows well maintained paved streets, with some fairly gentle inclines, until the castle headland. Paths here have short but steep gradients that are unsuitable for wheelchairs and buggies. This path can become slightly overgrown at certain times of the year, but is still easily passable.
