| Wednesday 18 February 2004 This has been an interesting few days, for very different reasons. This morning, at 7am, I took part in an activity with a difference. An International 10 Km road race in Pokhara. | We were the focus of much curiosity by the locals | |

Although this sort of event takes place in towns across the UK every weekend, I had my doubts over the safety of competitors here. Judging by the normal road sense displayed by most drivers, I fully expected to be running through horn-blowing traffic with immovable cows blocking my path. In the end, the police and army did a good job of stopping the traffic. We also had every school lining the streets, clapping in time to our pounding feet. I returned their support by clapping them, much to their amusement. As one of very few foreigners taking part, we were the focus of much curiosity by the locals. The experience was great, although it didn't make it any easier!
