| Friday 06 February 2004 On Friday afternoon, three of us decided to climb up to Sarangkot (1550m), a large hill outside Pokhara, which is famous for providing a beautiful view of the Annapurna Mountain range at sunrise. The Annapurnas, at 8000m, dominate the clear skyline over Pokhara. It was dark by the time we arrived at 6pm in the little village just short of the summit. On the way, while meandering through dimly lit villages, we attracted the attention of a young chap who wanted to chat and showed us to a guest lodge (we were going to it anyway). He was called Ramesh and soon left. We checked in, agreed the cost of the two twin rooms (£1.80) and ordered some food.  | | The view from Ade's accommodation |
We then walked up some stone stairs and sat down on the roof top restaurant! There was of course no view, but the silence was almost perfect, accept for the occasional conversation between local dogs. We were only underneath a straw canopy but it was just what we wanted. It was also quite cold. Sitting there in our warm gear, drinking cold beer and chatting was extremely relaxing. When the food finally came it was devoured in minutes. Mostly because the plate was metal and it was cold as soon as the owner had gone back down the steps to the kitchen! Next entry |
