Roseanna Donohoe is sad about the changes that have taken place in the village and townland communities of Fermanagh during her lifetime:- ".... Click here to read what else Sally has to say about Fermanagh. A contributor writes:- "I went to Carry Bridge for 6 months in 1942 to my grandparents as there were a few bombing raids in Belfast where I lived at that time.
I went to school about a mile from Carry Bridge but all the classes were in the same room as there was only one teacher and only about 30 pupils in total. I had to go to Church every Sunday and learn new words and hymns. The teacher was called Mrs Clingan and the minister's name was Canon McTigue.
I did have relatives in Lisbellaw which was about 2 miles away and other relatives round and about but apparently they were wild things and I never met them.
Evelyn recalls a pleasant weekend:- "I'd never been to Castle Archdale before and we had a lovely walk through the grounds there, passing an enclosure of deer .....

when on holidays in Enniskillen in 1969 I had my pic takin by a journilist from the Fermanagh News I would love to visit the archives to find this pic butIi can find no website for Fermanagh News only Fermanagh Herald. I wonder if anyone out there can help me would be most thankful.
Valerie Brewster Willis - June '08 I wonder if anyone has researched Willis family history in Fermanagh? The children of Robert Willis and Jane Francis O'Connor emigrated to South Africa, Australia and finally New Zealand from the 1860s onwards. Robert and Jane Willis are buried in the Church of Ireland, Ballinamore. I believe Robert Willis was born in Fermanagh, near Eniskillen before joining the Irish Constabulary and being posted to Rosscommon in 1829. Any contact will Willis descendants from Fermanagh would be most welcome.

Fermanagh is certainly a lovely place. My great-grandfather, James Irvine, was born in Ulster and family stories say he wa from Fermanagh. He was born in 1846 and emigrated to the U.S. in 1863(supposedly) with sisters Gertie, Sallie, Maggie, and brother, Samuel. My cousins and I are having a terribly difficult time trying to find out if any of our Irvine relatives in the area remember this particular part of the family. I am trying to find information on my late grandparents Robert H.Ritchie and his wife Kathleen. My grandfather died I think about 1943 and was at one time owner/manager of the local newspaper,Fermannah News or Times later to become a print works(somewhere near the hotel in the main street) which was run by one of my uncles,also now deceased. At one time they lived in Albert Terrace. I do still have family in the area in the persons of an Uncle Herford and an Aunt Barbara but would like to try to get this information as a surprise for them Any help with regards Birth,Marriage,Death of any of the above please Kerry Gibson - Jan '06

Does anyone remember the 'stirrup' family who lived on the road opposite doghertys butchers? They lived somewhere near a bridge. The older brothers served in WW1 and their names are written in the Church of Ireland Church? |
