It had been written by Edward O'Reilly who was born in Cavan and had immigrated to New York from where he sent them his verses. The poem contained many stories and legends of the area together with Mr O'Reilly's personal views about the politics of the time.

It was a good read. Not just a good read, but a good, very long, read. For the poem had over 500 verses and some of those verses contained more than 25 lines.

Well versed! Solving the problem The newspaper solved the problem by serialising the saga and filling whole pages with it, sometimes stretching to more than one page. They then spread the poem over four separate weekly editions. What a labour of love to write such an epic and what longing there must have been for the old homeland to spur on such a work?
