Let's Play and Learn Together is based on the premise that young children learn best through the medium of play.
Using Activity Cards
Using the Activity Cards as an Interactive Game
The activity cards are also designed so that they can be used as an interactive game. This provides an opportunity to explore similarities and differences, while allowing for much discussion and language development in the process.
- Have a child choose any two cards and ask all the children to compare and contrast the characters depicted on the front. How are they the same? How are they different? If you select two cards with the same character depicted, what has changed about them? What has stayed the same?
- You can also choose larger groups of cards, and have the children sort them in different ways. First sort by one criterion (e.g., colour), then sort the same cards by a different criterion (e.g., human, animal or monster). Keep coming up with categories (e.g.,everyone who has eyes; ears; glasses, etc.) until the cards have been sorted in multiple ways. Be sure to point out that even when people seem different, there are always things that they share.
