With the 6,000-strong crowd in great spirits after England's 1-0 World Cup victory over Paraguay, a friendly banter erupted between Embrace front man Danny McNamara and the crowd. The Yorkshire five-piece kicked off the evening with No Use Crying, the first track from their new album, This New Day. From the moment the first chord rang out, the fans sang along religiously to every track. Despite the hot weather, the crowd were in a jubilant mood and obliged when asked to jump around. 'Fanstastic set'They performed a fantastic set with songs from their back catalogue of albums, combining both their ballads and pop-rock anthems - and, of course, that England song. Despite the band admitting World At Your Feet isn't particularly sing-along, the crowd and especially the football shirt-clad clan at the front went mad for it. The performance couldn't have been better timed. Towards the set's end Danny burst into his own version of I'm In The Mood to huge applause. He seemed genuine when thanking the crowd and said how pleased he was that so many people had come along to sing to his music. Despite the pushing, jumping and beer-throwing, everyone piled out of the venue buoyed by the performance. Embrace were far better than I think most people had anticipated, truly engaging with the audience to create a fun and laid-back evening. Embrace kicked off their forest tour at Thetford on Saturday 10 June, 2006. |
