BBC Proms Young Singers Music CampAs part of the BBC Proms, 40 young singers attended a two-week residential music camp to prepare for a performance of H²hOpe: The Water Diviner's Tale at the Royal Albert Hall on the 27th of August 2007. The singers, who were selected at auditions in London, were given professional vocal and performance training in the two weeks before the performance which was also broadcast on BBC Radio 3. 1 of 15: The music camp took place from Tuesday 14th to Monday 27th August 2 of 15: The young singers were coached by some of the top industry professionals including conductor David Charles Abell and director Denni Sayers 3 of 15: There were 40 young singers at the camp, including four soloists, all under 16 years old 4 of 15: It was a unique chance to prepare for their performance in front of 5,000 people in the Royal Albert Hall 5 of 15: To be chosen for the music camp, the young singers had to be passionate about music and have a good singing voice 6 of 15: The young singers were practising a new musical drama piece composed by Rachel Portman with the script written by Owen Sheers 7 of 15: H²hOpe: The Water Diviner's Tale is a fresh and innovative production exploring the hot issue of climate change 8 of 15: A key skill to singing is being able to listen to the music! 9 of 15: The singers would have to be at full volume as they'll perform with professional singers and the BBC Concert Orchestra 10 of 15: All sorts of games activities were played to make sure the singers were relaxed and the vocal chords warmed-up! 11 of 15: It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who took part 12 of 15: Towards the end of the two weeks all the singers got together to rehearse the whole performance 13 of 15: Good singers have strong stomach muscles too! 14 of 15: Denni Sayers directed the production 15 of 15: The young singers played the part of the 'Lost Children' |
