Army, listen up - BTS are back!

The world famous K-pop group are making music again after an almost four year break, and have kicked off with a big concert in South Korea's capital city Seoul.

Their comeback has been hotly anticipated, so here are five facts about the group's return to the music scene.

Gwanghwamun Square is a 600-year-old historical landmark

The concert on Saturday 21 March took place in Gwanghwamun Square, a significant historical site in Seoul's city centre.

It's the first time ever the area has been used as a stage for a gig, and the band each took in turns to thank city officials for letting them perform there.

"I'm deeply honoured to perform at Gwanghwamun, the most historic place in South Korea," Suga said. "We named the album Arirang and chose Gwanghwamun as the venue to reflect our identity."

All but one of the band served in the military

Men in South Korea have to do military service

The band went on hiatus a break in 2022, as some of them had to serve in the army for a while.

South Korea's military service law means that all young men who don't have a disability have to serve in the military for about two years.

Suga however didn't work in the army, as he was ruled unfit, so instead worked as a social service agent, which is South Korea's alternative for men who aren't able to be in the military on physical or mental grounds.

The crowd was big, but not as big as expected

10,000 people were actually in the concert venue but tens of thousands more were watching the band on screens around the city

According to entertainment company HYBE, about 104,000 people attended the concert at Gwanghwamun Square.

However, it was lower than the 250,000 that were expected to turn up.

It was also streamed live on Netflix to 190 countries.

They're already breaking records

Arirang is the band's 10th album

The comeback started with the release of a new album called Arirang, named after a famous Korean folk song.

Their tenth studio album broke records as soon as it landed - it sold four million copies in a single day, and became the most streamed K-pop album ever on Spotify.

A sold out world tour is next

The comeback continues in April, with a sold out tour that will include 34 stops and 88 shows.

They're proving so in demand that Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, has written to the South Korean government asking for BTS to play more shows in her country.

The tour is expectde to earn the band $1 billion (roughly £750 million).
