At the Winter Olympics, Team GB's freestyle skier Kirsty Muir finished fourth in the Women's Big Air final on Monday night.

The 21-year-old scored a combined 174.75 points from her best two jumps, 3.5 points behind Italy's Flora Tabanelli.

It's the second time during the Games that Muir has had a fourth-place finish, after she just missed out on slopestyle bronze a week ago.

Canada's Megan Oldham won gold, with China's defending champion Eileen Gu taking silver.

Big air is the newest event in Olympic skiing, having made its debut at the last Winter Games in 2022.

Athletes ride down a ramp and perform one trick when they launch into the air and land in a designated zone.

Each skier performs three jumps, with the scores from the two highest-scoring tricks combined to determine the athlete's overall ranking.

Muir was in sixth place after the opening round but then landed a massive 1620 trick on her second jump - featuring four and a half rotations in the air.

This pushed her up to second place at the end of round two.

However, high scores from the other skiers meant that Muir needed another huge jump on her last attempt if she wanted to win a medal.

The GB athlete went big on her last jump but crashed out, meaning she finished the competition in fourth place overall.

Afterwards, Muir said she was very happy with her performance.

"I'm really proud of myself for putting the two tricks down that I did, and also going for it in that third run because I've never landed that trick before.

"I just had to go for it, and yes I crashed out, but I'm still proud of myself," she added.
