England are through to the last 16 of the Euros

England have made it through to the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after Spain beat Albania on Monday - and they have a game to spare.

The Three Lions play Slovenia in their final group game of the competition on Tuesday night, but the result won't affect whether they go through but it could affect who they play next.

Spain are in a different group than England, but because of the Euro 2024 format, results from outside your team's group can still affect which teams make it to the knockout stage.

Read on to find out how England got through and who they could potentially play next.

Spain's win over Albania means England are through to the next stage

At the end of the group stage matches, the top two teams from each group go through to the knockout stage, along with the four best third-placed finishers.

If a team finishes third, whether they qualify to the knockout stages will be decided on things like points, goal difference (that's the difference between the number of goals scored for and against) and the amount of goals they have scored.

England's results so far in the tournament mean they cannot finish lower than third in Group C.

Albania's loss to Spain means that England will be, at least, one of the four best third-placed finishers and qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2024.

England could come up against the tournament hosts Germany

After their final group game against Slovenia, England could come up against a range of teams depending on the result of that game and others.

If England win Group C, they will play against one of the third-placed finishers from Group D, Group E or Group F on Sunday.

If England finish second in their group, they will play the tournament hosts Germany on Saturday.

If England finish in third place, they will play either Group F winners Portugal on Monday or the winner of Group E.
