BBC Radio 1 Breakfast presenter Greg James got a royal surprise while on his massive Red Nose Day challenge - with Prince William turning up to help out.

Yes, the Prince of Wales, that Prince William.

Greg is attempting to cycle 1000km on a tandem bike through England, Wales and Scotland over eight days to raise money for Comic Relief - that's the charity behind Red Nose Day.

Prince William surprised Greg, jumping on to the rear saddle to help him on his challenge, while he was cycling through the countryside in South Yorkshire.

Greg set off on cycling challenge, called the Longest Ride, on 13 March and so far has raised more than £1m for Comic Relief.

He's been joined by lots of famous faces along the way, each helping with a bit of pedal power.

Prince William helped power the tandem bike for about 30 minutes as it went through the countryside.

Speaking afterwards, Greg said he was still processing the surprise.

He said: "I've got so many flies in my mouth because I've been cycling with my mouth wide open."

Prince William joined Greg on his challenge just outside of Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

He told the presenter he had "set an example about helping out" and congratulated everyone working on the challenge for "an amazing team effort".

Greg is due to finish the Longest Ride in Edinburgh on 20 March.

It's not the first challenge he's done for Comic Relief, he completed five triathlons in five days in 2016 and also climbed Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis in 2018.
