Golden became one of 2025's biggest hits and is in the running to win an Oscar at the Academy Awards on 15 March

Mark Sonnenblick, the songwriter behind Netflix's most-watched film KPop Demon Hunters, has revealed that a sequel is "in process".

2026 has been an incredible year for Sonnenblick. He has already won a Golden Globe and a Grammy, and has been nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar) for co-writing Golden, the movie's biggest hit song.

Following the movie's incredible success, he says the film has taken everyone involved from "zero to a million", and he will "never have an experience like this" again.

But could a sequel replicate the success of the original? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Golden became the first K-Pop song to win a Grammy and when our colleagues at BBC Newsbeat spoke to Sonnenblick, it was less than an hour after he heard that the song had also been shortlisted for an Oscar. "You're catching me at a very vulnerable time," he said, holding his phone after an emotional call with his parents in the US.

He explained the film's success was thanks to its fans. "This song could have disappeared. The only reason this nomination happened is fans responded and told other people to watch the film."

KPop Demon Hunters creator, Maggie Kang, has said there's "definitely more" to do with its characters.

Mark explained the next steps: "There's going to be a whole development process before we get deep into writing the songs. The music will follow from the story and that's if it makes sense for us all to be doing it again."
