The moment hundreds of Amazonian turtles are released

This was the moment around 1,500 Amazonian turtles were released by scientists and volunteers.
They were placed on the bank of Brazil's Rio Negro in Jau National Park before they found their way into the water.
The species, known as Podocnemis expansa is considered to be threatened or endangered in some areas, including the Rio Negro region.
That's why programmes like this are in place - to help the reproduction of the species so they can thrive in the wild.

Communities that live in the area are helping with the conservation efforts after the turtle population started to decline.
Eduardo Siba is a farmer in the area. He explained how turtles are important to people who live in the region.
"Why? Because they are one of the things that tend to disappear. If you don't help nature, it will eventually come to an end."
