The Venerable Timothy Barker has been named as the new Dean of Guernsey.

His nomination to become the island's new Dean has been approved by the Queen and he will take up his post in November.

Mr Barker was ordained in 1980, at the age of 23, and was appointed to his current role as Archdeacon of Lincoln in 2009.

As well as becoming the senior priest in the Bailiwick, he will also be the Rector of St André de la Pommeraye.

Bishop Willmott said the new Dean would bring a "huge amount of experience to Guernsey" and a "proven track record of energetic and committed Christian leadership".

The previous Dean of Guernsey, the Very Reverend Paul Mellor, retired from the role in 2014 after 11 years in post.
