Eyemouth anglers knocked into sea by wave

One angler has been rescued but the search for a second has been suspended after they were knocked into the sea at Eyemouth by a large wave.

Eyemouth and St Abbs lifeboats were called out to the incident at about 17:30 on Sunday.

One of the anglers was pulled from the sea and received medical attention.

A rescue helicopter and HM Coastguard teams continued to search for the other angler but the operation was suspended on Monday morning.

Bev Allen, maritime operations controller for HM Coastguard, urged people to be careful near the coastline.

"Our advice for shore anglers is to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid," she said.

"Don't wade into breaking waves as the undertow can sweep you off your feet."
