Details of the shirt were released by police

Details of a shirt in which a newborn baby who died after being left outside a vicarage was wrapped have been released in a bid to trace the mother.

The boy was found outside St Peter's Church in Bramley, West Yorkshire, on 23 November.

He was wrapped in a white, 15-inch collar man's shirt made by Dunnes, West Yorkshire Police said.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted but the cause of the baby's death is unknown, the force said.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but was later pronounced dead.

Police said the baby boy was found in a carrier bag similar to the one pictured

West Yorkshire Police said the white baby boy was found in a Tesco bag for life and he had since been named Peter by the local community.

Ch Insp Nicola Bryar, said: "Although a week has passed since the discovery of this baby boy we still have very real concerns for the welfare of his mother.

"The shirt that Peter was wrapped in was mass-produced and there will be a number of them out there."

Female DNA has been found on the shirt and the force's priority was the welfare of the mother, it added.
