Police are investigating whether the robberies in Shirley Common and Ednaston are linked

Police in Derbyshire are investigating whether two robberies on people who were tied up in their homes are linked.

Three men in balaclavas robbed a 62-year-old woman in her home in Shirley Common, near Ashbourne, on Saturday night.

A detective described it as a "cowardly attack on a lone woman".

On 13 September, three men in balaclavas tied up and robbed a couple in their home in Ednaston, about two miles (3km) away.

They took watches and a large amount of jewellery before locking the couple in a room and leaving the house.

Det Insp Shaun McElheron said the most recent robbery "was a very cowardly attack on a lone woman and the aggression and violence used was just not necessary".

He added: "The crime has taken an element of pre-planning so we are also asking if any people were seen acting suspiciously in the preceding weeks."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Derbyshire Police.
