Officers have recovered nearly £2m from criminals in nine months, West Midlands Police revealed.

The force said the "ill-gotten gains" had been been paid back by 96 offenders under the Proceeds of Crime Act between April and December 2016.

The cash includes £42,000 from a man who stole from gambling machines and £18,000 from a cannabis grower.

The money will help "clean-up communities" and fund after-school clubs, a police spokesman said.
