Kyary Pamyu Pamyu: I want to be accepted for who I am

When Kyary Pamyu Pamyu arrived in London for a gig at Koko hundreds of fans were waiting for her at the venue.
The show was part of the Japanese singer's world tour to mark the release of her greatest hits album, KPP Best.
Despite playing in London before, Kyary told Newsbeat she's still not used to British crowds.
"English fans cheer very loudly, Japanese fans get excited too but then tend to just clap. I love that English people don't care what people think."

Having started as a fashion blogger Kyary Pamyu Pamyu first released music in 2009.
Since then the 23-year-old's had nine top ten singles in Japan and four albums in the top three.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has won four Japanese MTV Video Music Awards
It's rare for J-Pop artists to have careers that last so long and are so successful.
Kyary claimed her longevity is down to being unpredictable.
"I just want to constantly surprise everybody.
"I'm totally aware I should be grateful to the fans to allow me to be here so I work hard to meet their expectations."

Her music videos have hundreds of millions of views on YouTube
Although she wants to keep everyone guessing there's something the singer won't change for her fans outside Japan.
"I don't sing in English and I don't speak English very well.
"I sometimes think that maybe I should be singing in English for people overseas for people who listen to my songs.
"But at the same time I'm really pleased people really listen to my music for who I am.
"It may be just accepted by a small number of people [outside of Asia] but it is also important to me that I sing in Japanese and to be received as who I am."

J-pop acts often struggle to build a fan base outside of Asia.
But now she's got greatest hits under her belt and followings in the UK, USA and Australia - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's got a plan to help establish herself around the world.
"We want to attempt something really interesting.
"One [idea] is to collaborate with other artists and they could be artists from overseas - nothing has been decided but I'm really looking forward to that."
