10 things British astronaut Tim Peake will do in space
- Published

In 10 days' time, British astronaut Tim Peake is blasting into space.
The retired army major will become the first Brit to live on the International Space Station.
Tim and two other spacemen, Tim Kopra and Yuri Malenchenko, will lift off from Kazakhstan on the morning of 15 December.
The 43-year-old from Chichester has been training hard for his six-month mission ever since he was chosen by the European Space Agency in May 2009.
Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw and Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain are among 10 celebs who are counting down to Tim's lift-off in a new video.
The clip also features Strictly hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly., external
So we've compiled 10 things Tim is going to do while he's in space.
Run the London Marathon

Tim is going to run the London Marathon while in space - on a treadmill.
He'll do the 26.2 miles at the same time as runners hit the capital's streets on 24 April.
Tim's done the London Marathon before (in 1999) and it's common for astronauts to run to maintain their health and fitness.
He'll need to wear a harness so he doesn't float away from the treadmill!
Eat food made by Heston Blumenthal

Heston is designing some special meals for Tim to tuck into when he's in space.
Exact details are under wraps for now but the food will be inspired by menus sent in by school pupils.
A competition called The Great British Space Dinner was launched last year.
Tim and Heston chose five winners, which will be used as inspiration for the final menu.
Have Christmas pudding on Christmas Day (and maybe a bacon sandwich)

Tim will be spending Christmas on the International Space Station.
At a press conference last month, he said there would be a Christmas pudding on board.
He also said one of Heston's meals included a bacon sandwich.
"So I might wake up and enjoy a bacon sarnie prior to my Christmas pudding."
Listen to Muse, Sia and Ellie Goulding

Tim's put together a special music playlist for his time in space.
It's a varied collection but includes songs from Muse (Starlight), Sia (Chandelier) and Ellie Goulding (Lights).
Tim tweeted a link to the European Space Agency Spotify playlist., external
Use sticky tape

Tim revealed that he'd been advised by former astronauts that sticky tape is an essential to pack.
"They say if you leave anything, you turn around and it won't be there," he laughed last month.
Wear this logo

Blue Peter ran a competition to design a space badge for Tim to wear during his mission, named Principia (after Isaac Newton's book of mathematical principles).
This winning entry was from Troy (centre) - the apple references Newton's discovery of gravity.
Test brain pressure

Tim on a flight to test weightlessness
Tim will be involved in more than 30 science experiments for the European Space Agency when he's in orbit.
One of these includes measuring the effect of being in space on brain pressure, external.
Weightlessness can cause fluid in the body to move, mostly towards the head. This can increase brain pressure, which can affect astronauts' eyesight.
Do a 'normal' working week

Tim will work Monday to Friday, starting at around 8am and finishing about 6pm, with an hour off for lunch.
The time zone in space is Universal Time, which is the same as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), so he will be in sync with people in the UK.
Clean on Saturday mornings
He and the other astronauts will spend Saturday mornings cleaning the space station.
After that, they get the rest of the weekend to rest and chill.
Inspire you!
Tim wants his mission to inspire more young people to become interested in science and engineering.
"The legacy I hope is that this will inspire a new generation to look at science, to look at space, as an exciting career path, and to make choices that push them in that direction," he said.
He hopes to use Saturday afternoons to broadcast to those interested in his mission.
