In the Drawing Offices
Susie Millar is on the committee of Belfast Titanic Society, external. As well as preserving the history and heritage of ship-building, they promote and tell the story of Titanic and the White Star Line.

Linen sails were on many great explorers' ships. Watch a demonstration of the traditional craft of linen spinning in the marquee behind Titanic Belfast, with the Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum, external.
Emma the spinster is single. You can tell from the lovely bright and colourful ribbon on her spinning wheel. She's been hoping lots of nice young men will see it and check our her yarns. Emma's a pretty good catch. Like her, if you're a good spinster and do your job well you could be in luck and find a good husband. He'll be very pleased if you spin miles of yarn to make lots linen and plenty of money! It will take Emma 13 hours to spin a mile of her yarn.

Quote MessageSpinsters were strange looking creatures and had a hard life. They started spinning when they were 6 years old, had one muscly leg, a twisted back and as they threaded the yarn through their bottom teeth some were missing.

The tall ships may be gone but the boat regarded as Titanic's little sister is a permanent attraction in Belfast's Titanic Quarter. We took a guided tour. Keep your eyes peeled for the ghostly barman.
