    A Pontesbury man has created a 26ft-long (8m) otter out of branches and twigs and plans to display him at Bridgnorth Carnival on 24 June.

    The work was commissioned by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, which wants to mount his creation on their float.

  6. Man released in schoolgirl death investigationpublished at 17:51 BST 16 June 2017

    A man arrested in connection with the death of a 11-year-old girl in a crash in Copthorne, Shrewsbury has been released under investigation while police enquiries continue.

    The 77-year-old had been questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.

    The girl has not yet been named, but her head teacher at St George's School said it was an "incredibly difficult time" for all involved.

  7. Carnival in Shrewsbury tomorrowpublished at 17:46 BST 16 June 2017

    The Shrewsbury Carnival, external takes place tomorrow, with a parade around the town and a show in The Quarry.

    The procession will start at the park at 14:00 and travel down Victoria Quay and Smithfield, then up Castle Gates and Castle Street before turning into the High Street and then down Shoplatch, Bellstone, Barker Street and Bridge Street.

  9. Meetings to discuss the future of women and children's servicespublished at 17:20 BST 16 June 2017

    Open meetings are going to be held in Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Telford to get people's thoughts about the future of women and children's services in the county.

    They're being jointly hosted by the Shropshire and Telford Clinical Commissioning Groups and the first will be in Palmer's Cafe in Shrewsbury next Wednesday.

    The CCGs say they want to hear the experiences of parents, their friends and their families and say babies and small children will be catered for at the meetings.

    Proposals to close the county's rural maternity units have been put forward, because they are under-used and the Future Fit review of hospital services has recommended moving specialist women and children's services from Telford to Shrewsbury.

    Newport's Burton Borough School says it held an investigation when reports of inappropriate behaviour by an IT teacher came to light.

    Jennifer Cann has been given an indefinite suspension from teaching after admitting she failed to "maintain professional boundaries" and that she engaged in an "inappropriate relationship" with a pupil.

    Christine Carter, the head teacher at Burton Borough School, said the 30-year-old resigned before a disciplinary process could be completed, but that the investigation by school governors into her conduct was completed.

    A new road cycling race will be run in Shropshire on Sunday in honour of a local cyclist.

    Mike Jones will be known to many in the sport as the man who set up Stan's Cycles in Shrewsbury and he now runs a cycling holiday business in the Pyrenees with his wife.

    The 50 year old got the nickname "Rhino" because of his aggressive riding style and has won over 200 races including seven Midlands titles and has taken part in world and national championship events.

    The race will take place on roads near Eaton Constantine, just outside Shrewsbury.

    The Shrewsbury Town manager says he's expecting a "tough game" when his side travel to play Nottingham Forest in the first round of the League Cup.

    Paul Hurst said that even if their opponents tinker with their side for the game, it should be a challenge and that Forest was a club "steeped in history" that will want to perform better this season.

    A woman in Telford had to call out the fire service after getting her finger stuck in a pram mechanism this lunchtime.

    They were called out to Lightmoor just before midday and took under 15 minutes to free her.

  16. Further disruption to Shropshire maternity servicespublished at 15:21 BST 16 June 2017

    Staff sickness has now led to the closure of Bridgnorth's maternity unit this weekend.

    This is on top of the closures of the units in Ludlow and Oswestry until next Wednesday, with women being contacted to offer alternative arrangements.

    The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust has also announced that women booked for antenatal scans at the Sutton Hill Children's Centre next Tuesday and Wednesday will have to go to the Princess Royal Hospital instead, because of "essential building maintenance work".
