    Here are a couple of photos of the RSPCA rescuing a muntjac - Britain's smallest type of deer - after it became trapped in wire netting at a church in Nottingham earlier.

    After successfully freeing the frightened animal at St Nicholas Church, in Maid Marian Way, the inspector loaded it into a carrier and transported it to a more suitable location.

    Three men who died in a car crash near Buxton last night have been named by police.

    Peter Eyre and Daniel Leafe, both 18 and from the Peak Dale area died along with 25-year-old Aiden Edmonds, from Buxton.

    The trio were in a Ford Fiesta which collided with a Land Rover in Waterswallows Lane at about 18:30.

    The driver of the Land Rover was taken to hospital but no further information about his condition has been released.

    The British Army women's team have been beaten by their German Bundeswehr counterparts in a special match to mark the 100th Armistice Day.

    The game, the first of two taking place in Nottingham today, finished 2-1 to the Germans at Meadow Lane.

    A teenager has appeared in court charged with a series of sexual offences on trains in Nottinghamshire, external.

    British Transport Police said the 19-year-old, from Langwith, is accused of 11 counts of sexual touching, three counts of outraging public decency and one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

    Most of the alleged offences took place on trains running between Mansfield and Langwith but some took place in Mansfield town centre.

    The teenager did not enter a plea at Mansfield Magistrates' Court and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court next month.

    Two ram-raiders who smashed their way into shops across East Anglia and stole cash machines containing almost £300,000 in total have been jailed.

    Tony Smith, 19, and 26-year-old Charlie Oakley used stolen Land Rovers and Audis for ramming stores and as getaway vehicles in raids across six counties in March and April this year.

    They were caught after police disturbed a burglary in progress at a Co-op store in Cambridgeshire in April.

    None of the stolen money has been recovered, and more than £250,000 damage was caused to the businesses, Bedfordshire Police said.

    Smith, of Schole Road, Willingham, Cambridgeshire, was sentenced to five years in a young offender institution, and Oakley, of George Street, Shefford, Bedfordshire, was jailed for six years after they both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle.

    A 17-year-old boy from Market Harborough, who cannot be named due to his age, has admitted the same offences and will be sentenced later this month.

    This adorable small deer needed to be rescued by the RSPCA after being found trapped at a church in Nottingham earlier.

    The charity said the muntjac - Britain's smallest deer species - was cut free from wire netting in the grounds of St Nicholas Church in Maid Marian Way.

    A spokeswoman said: "Using bolt croppers the inspector was able to free the deer. Then using a net he managed to safely get it into a kennel and into his van. The rescue took about 20 minutes.

    “The RSPCA has a licence to return the non-native animal back into the wild and we are pleased to say the deer was taken to a suitable place in Nottinghamshire by the inspector this afternoon where it was released.”

    A pair of dog owners from Leicestershire have been praised for not running back into their burning house to save their two pets.

    They instead they let firefighters retrieve the dogs as they tackled a kitchen blaze in Hesketh Court, Oakham, just after 09:00.

    Oakham Fire Station tweeted, external: "The owners did so well by not entering back into the property to try and save their pets! Just two breaths of the smoke could make you fall unconscious."

    The fire, which caused extensive damage to the kitchen, is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.

  15. Council plots £5m buy-out of pothole-filling companypublished at 15:40 GMT 8 November 2018

    Nottinghamshire County Council is considering buying the other half of the road repairs company it jointly owns.

    The majority stake of Via East Midlands, which carries out pothole filling and repair work on the county's roads, is actually owned by Cornwall Council.

    Nottinghamshire's Conservative-led County Council owns 49% but now wants full control of the company.

    The authority has not said how much the acquisition would cost but documents seen by BBC Radio Nottingham put it at £5m.

    The council's ruling group said it means all the company's profits will be reinvested in local services but the Labour opposition said it was worried about the council borrowing a seven figure sum while its finances were under strain.

  16. Bombardier job cuts 'not expected to hit Derby hard'published at 15:16 GMT 8 November 2018

    Bombardier in Derby says there are no indications yet that the announcement of 5,000 job cuts by its parent company will have a significant impact in the city.

    The transportation division of the company, which includes Derby’s train-making factory, is expected to reduce its workforce by 1,300 globally as part of the cutbacks.

    It will affect all levels of the organisation, including contractual workers and planned retirements, the company says.

    “The restructuring measures will be carefully considered and taken in consultation with employee representatives and with trade unions,” said a Bombardier spokesman.

    A man has been sentenced for "catapulting drugs" into a Nottinghamshire prison.

    Police said Lee Duroe, 29, was seen on CCTV near HMP Ranby firing items over the perimeter fence using a catapult.

    He was arrested and subsequently eight packages containing diamorphine, cannabis and tobacco were found inside the prison grounds.

    Duroe, of Ballifield Crescent, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to two counts of conveying articles into a prison and was jailed for four years at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

  20. Drain cover thieves 'putting public at risk'published at 14:20 GMT 8 November 2018

    Thieves who've been stealing drain covers from Derbyshire's roads are putting the public's safety at risk, the council has said.

    At least 60 gully lids have been taken from roads in the county over the past week, leaving exposed drops of about 1.20 metres in some cases.

    The thieves have struck in Borrowash, Draycott, Long Eaton, Ockbrook, Risley, Sandiacre and Sawley - leaving Derbyshire County Council with a £15,000 bill to replace them.

    Simon Spencer, cabinet member for highways, transport and infrastructure, said: "We believe they are being stolen and then traded for scrap metal, even though they are not worth that much.

    "But the thefts leave gaping holes which are putting road users at serious risk.”
