Welcome along to the second installment of our football double-header.

It's a day with a difference with the football adding a perfect topping to a wonderful occasion.

We've already had one special match to mark the 100th Armistice Day - a fitting way to commemorate 100 years since the end of hostilities in World War One.

The Games of Remembrance kicked-off at Notts County's Meadow Lane earlier today, with the British Army women's team taking on their German Bundeswehr counterparts.

The Germans were 2-1 victors in a hard-fought contest there, which you can go back and relive the best bits from further down this page and even watch again in full should you wish.

Coming up at 19:00 GMT, just a hefty goal-kick away at Nottingham Forest's City Ground, we have the men's match.

There's all sorts going on, with fan zones and schools, clubs, and communities all involved.

  3. Tanks rolling in at the City Ground!published at 14:12 GMT 8 November 2018

FT: British Army 1-2 German Bundeswehr

That's us done and dusted from Meadow Lane. A cracking match full of chances and played in a great spirit.

There will no doubt be more of the same later when the men play out the second Games of Remembrance match.

And we can also promise a tank. Get down to Nottingham Forest's City Ground and take a closer look before taking in the football.

There will be plenty going on away from the match action, which you can also see on this website and on the BBC Sport app.

    Thanks for joining us.

The British team stuck in there when they were getting overrun at times but they took it all the way to the end.

Credit to them for not caving in and not giving up.

But from minute one the Germans looked the better team, looked stronger and moved the ball nicer.

    Overall the better team won.

It's all over. The Germans are worthy winners, but it was a spirited performance by the British side.

They could easily have snatched a draw. A few good chances went begging.

It was a beautiful finish from Libby Dixon which flew past the keeper.

With two minutes to go, you never know.

    Olivia Dixon (90+1 mins)

Now then. What a stunning finish. A cracking drive from Olivia Dixon just inside the area sets up a nervy finale for the Germans.

She smashed it in right footed and the young supporters loved that.

Another free-kick causes mayhem in the German box. Lucy Foreman cannot take advantage though.

That really needed to go for the Brits to have any chance. One minute to go, plus stoppage time.

    British Army 0-2 German Bundeswehr

Plenty of space on the pitch now as both sides tire. The Germans are eager to get a third but the hosts are still posing a threat.

There is just about time for a comeback.

The Germans will certainly believe they deserve that second goal, and it could have been three or four.

The British are still in the game - 2-0 is not irretrievable.

But Jess Horsley has been outstanding. She's made about 10 excellent saves and has kept the Germans at bay.

But there is no way the British side are rolling over here.

Ronja Riemer heads clears a header off the line for the Germans with Kelly Aldridge lurking. Ten to go now. Are we going to get a barnstorming finish?

  13. Postpublished at 13:42 GMT 8 November 2018

    British Army 0-2 German Bundeswehr

The Brits need to do something drastic to turn this around but the fact they even have a sniff is down to Jess Horsely, who has been terrific.

The Sheffield Ladies keeper has made about 10 fine saves.

  14. goal

GOAL: British Army 0-2 German Bundeswehrpublished at 13:38 GMT 8 November 2018

    Sarah Begunk (74 mins)

No. Seemingly not (see last entry).

Finally Jess Horsley is beaten for a second time.

The British keeper make stunning save but the ball falls to Sarah Begunk, who has a simple task of knocking the ball into an empty net from about 15 yards.

    British Army 0-1 German Bundeswehr

Less than 20 to go. I wonder if the Germans end up paying the price for all those missed chances. they should have been out of sight by now.

  16. Postpublished at 13:34 GMT 8 November 2018

    British Army 0-1 German Bundeswehr

Yet another save by Jess Horsley. As Steve Hodge said on co-commentating duty, she has had a stormer.

This is Horsley's third season for the British Army side and she has made countless saves. The latest is a shot straight at her from Sabrina Braunschweig from about 10 yards.

It was a pretty poor effort if truth be told.

  17. Postpublished at 13:31 GMT 8 November 2018

    British Army 0-1 German Bundeswehr

Kelly Aldridge is causing plenty of problems for the Germans as the British enjoy their best spell of the match.

But the Germans respond and it's a wonderful fingertip save by Jess Horsley at the other end. She's been outstanding.

    Steve Hodge
Former England and Forest midfielder at Meadow Lane

The Germans should have put this game to bed by now but the British are still in the game at 1-0.

That was a great chance to equalise and that will give them hope.

How did the British not score there? The Germans got in a terrible mess from a free-kick and Kelly Aldridge looked like she had to score from a couple of yards

But after the ball bobbles around she strikes towards goal but it is somehow blocked on the line and goes for a corner.

  20. Postpublished at 13:19 GMT 8 November 2018

    British Army 0-1 German Bundeswehr

Tenacious play from Demi Edwards, who plays for Crystal Palace.

She slides in twice, scraps for possession, wins it and sets up a half-chance, but it comes to nothing.
