Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision between two vehicles on the A149 this morning.

Emergency services attended the scene on the Caister bypass, near the Princes of Wales Road junction, shortly after 11:00 following reports of a collision between a silver Vauxhall Astra and a black Mini.

The Mini's occupant suffered serious facial injuries and was airlifted to the Norwich and Norwich University Hospital for treatment. The occupant of the Astra, who suffered chest, leg and hand injuries, was taken to hospital for treatment.

The A149 was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, reopening shortly after 16:00.

The former commanding officer of the Royal Anglian Regiment, Col Richard Kemp, says he can't think of any motive other than terrorism for the attempted abduction of an RAF Marham serviceman.

"The description of the individuals is of either Middle Eastern or Asian origin which would certainly suggest the profile that's most common to Islamic terrorists operating here in the United Kingdom," he said.

"So I think it's highly likely that with somebody in the vicinity of a military base - obviously a military person out running - attempted abduction is almost certainly going to be terrorism."

He said the attacks were "obviously" directed at air bases connected with bombing raids on Iraq and Syria.

"We should not seek to appease these people; we should not become afraid of them, we should respond to their attempts at aggression against us with far harder aggression against them," he said.

"The last thing we need is to be beaten by these people - they are not capable of beating us and we should stand up to them in every possible way we can."

Today we've brought you news that Norwich City have released a new third kit that is sure to divide opinion.

They've taken inspiration from the shirt they wore during the inaugural season of the Premier League when they finished third.

The green and yellow flecked shirt drew derision from fans, but has gone on to become something of a design classic.

The club will be hoping the new shirt brings as much luck as its predecessor.

The A11 in Thetford remains blocked, with queuing traffic northbound after the A1075 junction, because of a multi-vehicle accident.

Congestion has built up to the A134 Brandon Road junction.

The South West Norfolk MP, Elizabeth Truss, has been been formally sworn in as Lord Chancellor, the first woman to hold the role in its 1,000-year history.

Dressed in black and gold, Mrs Truss took her oath and pledged to respect the rule of law, defend judicial independence and ensure effective support for the courts.

The attack on a serving member of the armed forces at RAF Marham on Wednesday is still being treated as an attempted abduction, says Norfolk's assistant chief constable.

In an interview with BBC Look East's Mike Liggins, Nick Dean said the force had been in "close liaison with the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism unit from the start".

He added: "They've been working with us and liaising with us throughout this inquiry.... at this time there's no information or intelligence which has declared this a counter-intelligence investigation."

Norfolk's Assistant Chief Constable Nick Dean said the force was searching beyond East Anglia for the men responsible for the attempted abduction near RAF Marham.

"We've not just done local CCTV reviews - a number of inquiries have gone beyond Norfolk, into the region and beyond", he said.

CCTV has revealed a significant number of people were in the vicinity of the Costcutters store, and police urge them to come forward "no matter how insignificant they think their information is".

Norwich City's 2016-17 third kit, a throwback to the "egg and cress" shirt of the early 1990s, has prompted a fair amount of social media comment so far.

The club is promoting it with the tagline "Inspired by history", prompting this response...

Norwich City new boy Sergi Canos is set to make his first appearance for the club this weekend. 

The 19-year-old former Liverpool winger is expected to play against the Russian side Rubin Kazan as the Canaries end a pre-season training camp in Austria.

The Norwich City players who featured at Euro 2016 have now joined the squad in Austria but they are not due to play in tomorrow's friendly.

Outside the main gate at Marham it's clear that security remains high at the camp.

The police are still combing CCTV for more clues about the attackers and their vehicle. 

There's still considerable media interest here with television satellite trucks and camera crews waiting further developments. It's expected that Norfolk police will be able to update on the progress of their investigations later in the day.

Police investigating the attempted abduction of a serviceman near RAF Marham want to talk to people walking or driving near a supermarket at the time of the incident.

The serviceman was threatened with a knife on Wednesday between 14:55 and 15:26.

Police want to talk to people walking on Squires Hill, near the Costcutters store, at around the time of the incident.

Officers have not ruled out a link to terrorism.
