    A new campaign to tackle knife crime will be launched in South Yorkshire next week.

    The force says people will notice an increased presence, although there will also be undercover operations taking place as well.

    People who carry knives in the county are being urged to hand them in.

    There will also be metal detectors outside pubs and clubs to catch those carrying weapons.

    An East Yorkshire Brewery has created a new beer to help raise awareness of male suicide.

    The Old Mill Brewery in Snaith has called the beer '12th Man, external' and 5p from every pint sold will go to the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

  5. Fire service reveals number of hoax callspublished at 17:31 GMT 9 February 2018

    Crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spent around 180 hours dealing with hoax 999 calls between April and December last year.

    Figures from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue show they attended 45 hoax calls in the five months between April and December.

    They say the number of prank calls increases around school holidays.

  6. Barnsley bones 'someone who died within last five years'published at 17:13 GMT 9 February 2018

    Detectives working to find out more about human bones which were discovered on land in Barnsley say tests show the remains are those of someone who has died within the last five years.

    A police cordon remains in place at the scene - they were found on Sunday off Mitchell Street.

    No details of the gender and age of the person have been released and officers say they're still treating the death as unexplained.

    Officers said there is no indication the residents at the property next to where the discovery was made are linked or connected in any way.

    A Hull city councillor has told a jury he posted pornography on a twitter account he had set up.

    Steven Bayes said he had saved pornography to his laptop to post on twitter.

    He said he had seen indecent images of children and illegal pornography while browsing internet sites and twitter feeds, but told the jury at Hull Crown Court he had never downloaded those sorts of images.

    He denies making indecent images of children and owning extreme pornography. The case continues.

    Margaret Dickinson, who is from Gainsborough, has been signing copies of her newest novel The Poppy Girls which is set at Doddington Hall in Lincolnshire.

    It follows two families struggling to cope with the aftermath of the First World War.

    Police say the man who has admitted killing Rotherham teenager Leonne Weeks "selfishly and violently took away her life".

    Shea Peter Heeley, aged 19, killed the 16-year-old from Dinnington by stabbing her 28 times.

    Heeley, of Doe Quarry Lane in Dinnington, pleaded guilty to murder at Sheffield Crown Court this morning.

    The detective who has led the investigation said he was pleased Leonne's family had been spared the ordeal of a trial:

  12. Rapist 'took advantage of vulnerable girl'published at 16:02 GMT 9 February 2018

    Prosecutors say a taxi driver in Rotherham who raped a schoolgirl took advantage of a vulnerable young girl.

    Asghar Bostan, aged 47, of East Bawtry Road in the town was jailed for nine years at Sheffield Crown Court earlier today.

    The victim was raped twice after being coerced to stay in a flat in Rotherham after being given drink and possibly drugs.

    Operation Stovewood is investigating allegations of child sexual exploitation between 1997 and 2013.

    The auctioneers had estimated the value at £400 - £600.

  15. Five jailed for kidnapping and torturing teenagerpublished at 15:47 GMT 9 February 2018

    Four men and a woman have been jailed for the kidnap, imprisonment and torture of a 17-year-old boy from Grantham.

    The gang, all from Peterborough, tricked the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, by luring him to a bar to meet Danielle Corrigan, 27, (pictured above) and another girl.

    Instead, two of the gang chased and caught the boy, beating and stabbing him before handcuffing him and driving him to a house.

    While there he had a bag placed over his head, he was cut with a knife and tortured by the group.

    The offenders (pictured above and below) were dealt with at Lincoln Crown Court.

    Kane Stone, 25, (top left) was sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to GBH and conspiracy to kidnap.

    Adam Couzens, 25, (bottom left) was given 14 years in jail for the same charges.

    Mohammed Nazir, 26, (top right) was sentenced to six years in jail for pleading guilty conspiracy to kidnap.

    Danielle Corrigan, 27, (above middle) denied conspiracy to kidnap but was found guilty during the trial and was jailed for four years.

    Alan Stokes, 36, (bottom right) was jailed for two years and three months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to falsely imprison.

    A further man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to kidnap and will be sentenced in March.

    A 22-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were found not guilty for conspiracy to kidnap at a previous court appearance.

    Today is the final day you can buy Lincolnshire's local newspaper from a kiosk on a high street.

    The Lincolnshire Echo has been sold on Lincoln's High Street for over a century but their only salesperson is packing the job in to work "somewhere warmer".

    Jill Herrick has been in the kiosk come rain or shine for the best part of a decade.

    Jill said that she'll miss the job, remarking that those who buy papers from her "aren't just my customers, they're my friends".

    Police are asking for help to find a missing Sheffield woman.

    Emily Hickey was reported missing from her home in Sheffield city centre at 13:30 yesterday and may be carrying a large holdall.
