  4. Bulls investigated over claims of racist, sexist or abusive language by fanspublished at 17:55 BST 21 October 2016

    The Football Association has confirmed it is investigating four Hereford FC cup games, where racist, sexist or abusive language was allegedly used by fans. 

    As well as the FA Cup tie at Romulus, the matches against Sutton Coldfield Town, Tonbridge Angels and Salisbury are being looked at. 

    The FA says it is liaising with the club and relevant authorities about the claims.

    Bulls chief executive Ken Kinnersley told the Hereford Times, external the action by a "small minority" of fans was "disappointing".

  5. Children's centres cuts to go aheadpublished at 17:48 BST 21 October 2016

    Cuts of more than £3m a year to children's centres will go ahead, Worcestershire County Council has decided. 

    A scrutiny committee meeting today has approved the proposals, external - but the authority has promised to "discuss and share" with parents progress on what happens next.

    The decision was "called in" for scrutiny by Labour councillors unhappy with the plan. 

    The local authority insists it will target the remaining budget better and that no centres will close.

    Campaigners say the cuts will damage the chances of a generation of children.

  9. Rock in a sock prisoner killed inmate in 'brutal and unprovoked' attackpublished at 17:10 BST 21 October 2016

    A prisoner used a rock inside a sock to kill a fellow inmate in a "brutal and unprovoked" attack, police say.

    Victor Castigador, 61, killed Sidonio Eugenio Teixeira with "multiple blows to his head" during the incident at HMP Long Lartin on 20 June.

    Castigador is serving a whole-life sentence for tying up and setting alight two security guards at an amusement arcade in London. 

    He has been handed a second life-term for killing Teixeira, who was himself serving a life-sentence for murdering his three-year-old daughter.

  12. Bulls and council in talks about extending lease on groundpublished at 16:29 BST 21 October 2016

    Hereford FC have been talking to the council about extending their lease at the Edgar Street ground, external for "a minimum of 10 years", the club says.

    The club says it hopes to have finalised the extension "before Christmas".

    Herefordshire Council, which owns the ground, said it was pleased to be working with the club to help assure its future.

    An ongoing redevelopment of the Old Market area, where the ground is situated, could see a new spectator stand and facilities being built, alongside other retail outlets, with the stadium being returned to four sides.

    A community group that has taken ownership of a ruined Norman Castle in Herefordshire is being held up a good example of how local people can help save ancient buildings.

    I've been to Snodhill Castle, near Peterchurch, to find out more about the work to save the ruin, which is on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register.

    A prisoner who admitted murdering a fellow inmate at a Worcestershire jail has been given a second life sentence at Birmingham Crown Court.

    Victor Castigador, 61, killed 59-year-old Sidonio Teixeira at HMP Long Lartin in June.

  20. Heritage at Risk: Abbey's almonry 'very poor'published at 14:49 BST 21 October 2016

    A 14th Century building in Evesham has been added to Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register.

    English Heritage describe the condition of The Almonry in Evesham,, external which is now a musuem, as "very poor".

    The building was once home to the Almoner, who was the official distributor of alms to the poor, at the Benedictine Abbey that was founded at Evesham in the 8th Century.

    There are "clear signs of structural instability" in the timber frame of the building, Historic England says, and the stone slate roofing is "nearing the end of its life".

    It says the museum is looking to apply for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to carry out repairs.
