    An area of heavy rain with gusty winds will move across Essex this evening. Some of the downpours might be heavy with hail mixed in and there's a risk of thunder and lightning.

  3. Maldon death: Victim's name released by policepublished at 17:47 BST 29 March 2016

    A woman who was murdered at her home in Maldon last Thursday has been named as 47-year-old Amina Begum.

    A post-mortem examination gave the provisional cause of her death as "multiple incised wounds", Essex Police said.

    Javid Ahmed, 25, of Fambridge Close, Maldon, was charged with murder and appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court earlier. He will next appear in court in May.

  4. Bouncy castle death: Family speak of 'overwhelming' messages of supportpublished at 17:43 BST 29 March 2016

    The family of Summer Grant, who died after the bouncy castle she was playing on blew away, said the messages of support they have received have been "overwhelming".

    Summer's uncle Shawn Grant said the messages, donations, flowers and teddy bears left in her memory were "important for the family".

    "On social media, the messages we've received, it's just been wonderful, it really has," he said.

  6. Man, 26, questioned over dangerous driving and endangering life on a railway linepublished at 17:36 BST 29 March 2016

    It's emerged a man who spent much of the day on Basildon Hospital's roof had been taken to the Accident and Emergency department after a car was found on the c2c rail line near Pitsea.

    The 26-year-old came down from the roof safely earlier this afternoon. He had been taken to hospital after failing to stop for police in Stanford Road, Thurrock, at about 04:15.

    He's been arrested on suspicion of various offences, including dangerous driving and endangering life on a railway line.

    A man who spent several hours on the roof of Basildon Hospital had been taken to the site after failing to stop for police in Thurrock, with his car ending up on a railway track.

    An Essex Police spokeswoman said specially-trained officers negotiated with him to get him down from the roof where he had been since 08:30.

    The man, who is 26 and from Chadwell, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, theft of a motor vehicle, criminal damage, and endangering life on a railway line.

    A crash involving two overturned cars has closed part of the A127 in Dunton.

    A diversion is in place up and round the slip roads at the B148 West Mayne junction.

  9. Man down from Basildon Hospital roofpublished at 17:11 BST 29 March 2016

    Basildon Hospital says a man who had been on its roof since 08:30 this morning came down at about 15:00.

    A hospital spokeswoman said it was a "police matter".

    "Hospital staff assisted the police as requested, for example our security staff helped to keep the area safe for patients, visitors and staff," the hospital spokeswoman added.

    Maldon-born superhero Captain Britain, who could feature in a new TV series, was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe in 1976.

    A man has been on the roof of Basildon Hospital since this morning, police say.

    Essex Police officers were contacted at about 08:30 over concerns for the safety of a man on the roof of the building.

    Officers are negotiating with him to try and bring him down safely.

    The family of seven-year-old Summer Grant has been back to the site where she died today to leave floral tributes.

    Summer, from Norwich, died when the bouncy castle she was playing on in Harlow blew away in high winds.

    The family attended the scene a short time ago to leave the tribute.

    A man has been arrested after trains were delayed by a car found abandoned on a railway line.

    Emergency services were called to the incident near Pitsea, Essex, after the Volkswagen Polo was found shortly after 4:15 today.

    Rush hour services between Pitsea and London Fenchurch Street were disrupted throughout the morning. British Transport Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of assault and firearms offences.

    As well as teddy bears, scores of bunches of flowers have been left at the park where Summer Grant died on Saturday.

    She suffered fatal injuries when the bouncy castle she was playing on was blown away in high winds.

    I've been back to the park in Harlow where seven-year-old Summer Grant died on Saturday when the bouncy castle she was playing on was blown away in high winds.

    Dozens of teddy bears have been left at the scene in tribute to Summer, from Norwich.

    A crowdfunding page set up in memory of Summer received 350 donations and has already beaten its £5,000 target.

    Messages on the page attributed to family members, including Summer's grandmother, thanked those who had donated.

    "I want to say thank you all who donated and for the heartfelt messages here. It will give our beautiful angel a good send off," she wrote.
