    A large amount of designer jewellery was stolen from a house in Honiton last month.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said thieves crept in through the window of a property on Hale Lane between 10:00 and 13:35 on Friday 31 May.

    Stolen items include a silver Pandora necklace with diamonds, a silver Armani watch, a gold cross diamond necklace, a silver link bracelet, a black and white diamond necklace and a gold and silver ladies watch.

    The suspect was wearing a long dark-coloured coat, dark trousers, white trainers and a dark baseball cap.

  5. Former Masters Champion hosts golf event in Cornwallpublished at 13:28 BST 14 June 2019

    A number of former major winners and Ryder Cup players will be in Cornwall next weekend for a brand new golf tournament.

    The European Legends Links Championships, external is being held at Trevose Golf Club, external near Padstow.

    The 1991 Masters Champion Ian Woosnam is hosting the event and said: "I've not been down that far before and I'm very much looking forward to it. I've heard a lot about Trevose. I'm looking forward to the golf course, and also the food!"

    "There will be a tented village for spectators who come along with food and drink and shopping so please come and enjoy the golf."

    It begins on Thursday with a Pro-Am, with a three day tournament featuring 54 professionals between Friday and Sunday.

    Former Open Champion Paul Lawrie, Jean van de Velde and Marc McNulty are among those taking part.

    A man was taken to hospital with multiple injuries after being assaulted by three men in Plymouth, police have said.

    It happened between 03:00 and 03:20 on 9 June in Jigsaw Park.

    The man, in his 30s, was reported to have been assisting a woman up the stairs outside M&S and Bill's when he was assaulted by three men who approached him from behind - knocking him to the floor.

    Officers added the three men repeatedly kicked the victim in the head and body.

    He was taken to Derriford hospital with multiple injuries and later released.

    Any witnesses are asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101.

    Two military service medals and some jewellery have been stolen from a house in Torquay, police have said.

    The burglary happened at about 20:45 on Sunday 10 June at a house on Marldon Road.

    Officers said the medals are inscribed with the name Ronald Smith and/or Edwin Full.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101.

    A row has broken out over the funding of Teignmouth's first ever air show.

    Organisers were expecting Teignbridge Council to give them £10,000 toward the free event, but the new Liberal Democrat administration's climate change policy doesn't fit in with the displays.

    The event is going ahead, but they need more money and it could impact future plans.

    Parents in Cornwall whose babies have died during pregnancy, or shortly after birth are being offered extra emotional support.

    Ella's Memory, the charity set up by Martyn and Emmilie Selley following the death of their baby daughter, is funding a specialist counsellor to help grieving families.

    She'll meet parents in the charity's bespoke counselling room at the Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre, off the Royal Cornwall Hospital site at Treliske.

    Martyn says the support will go above and beyond that currently offered by the NHS.

    The charity has previously raised nearly £30,000 to refurbish The Daisy Suite at Treliske, which caters for mothers who go through labour when their babies have died.

    Education funding in Devon has seen a real terms reduction of 10 percent , externalfrom 2009/10 to 2017/18, Devon County Council's children's scrutiny committee has heard.

    Schools in the county also have a maintenance backlog of more than £40m, with £23m of the repairs considered critical.

    On Monday, the committee agreed to call on the cabinet to once again lobby parliament and the region's MPs over the inadequacy of the current funding for Devon's schools.

    Cllr Alan Connett, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Devon County Council, said the county was being short-changed in education.

    Is Parliament listening and are our MPs - other than the one for Exeter - listening, as they keep voting for the budget and are the ones depriving the children of Devon? At what point do we just say that we can do no more? Every council meeting, every cabinet meeting, and probably every scrutiny meeting, we say that Devon is being shortchanged when it comes to education, but they are not listening."

    Dawn Stabb, Head of Education and Learning at Devon County Council, said schools have had to make a significant reduction in staffing levels, and that some had discussed reducing their hours or closing early on a Friday due to the lack of funding.

    The Department for Education (DfE) said school funding in England was at "its highest ever level".

    The Conservatives have won a by-election to deny the Liberal Democrat’s outright control of North Devon Council.

    Tory candidate Ray Jenkins topped the poll in Chittlehampton with the Green Party in second place and the Lib Dems in third.

    The election had been delayed from last month due to the death of a candidate.

    The Liberal Democrats are the largest party and will lead the council but are one seat short of total control.

    New figures show more people drown in Cornwall than anywhere else in the UK or Ireland.

    A survey carried out by the Royal Life Saving Society, external (RLSS) also says that one in eight people in the South West has nearly died in the water.

    Seventy people have accidentally drowned in Cornwall in the last five years, including six in 2018, making it the highest-ranking county for drowning tragedies.

    Saturday marks the start of Drowning Prevention Week, external, which highlights drowning and how to prevent it.

    The RLSS UK is running events around the county to highlight the dangers of open water.

    It says six percent of people surveyed in the South West knew someone who had died through drowning.
