The Indian authorities are seeking to extradite the 52-year-old Sikh Paramjeet Singh Saini who was arrested while on holiday in Portugal over the murder of a politician six years ago.
Mr Saini had previously been granted refugee status and indefinite leave to remain in the UK, Smethwick MP John Spellar said in Parliament today as he raised the issue. His wife told me her husband was innocent and his arrest was politically motivated.

Mr Spellar told me: "If they've got a proper case, they should have all their facts together. That's why the Portugese authorities should be returning him to the UK and his family and his job.
"If the Indians have an issue they should be taking it up with the British government."
