A Grade II-listed steam mill is to be demolished over safety concerns.

The JN Miller Ltd building in Corn Hill, Wolverhampton is "beyond repair and poses a serious danger to the public", the city council said.

Last month, pedestrians and cyclists were stopped from using part of a road by the building which had already been closed to traffic.

Now a structural engineer's report said it cannot be repaired and is dangerous, the council said.

The building was listed by English Heritage in 1991 but was gutted by a fire in 2008.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council's cabinet member for city assets, said: "It is sad news that such a historic building has to be pulled down - but unfortunately it is beyond repair and poses a serious danger to the public.

"It is our duty to make the area safe and once demolition is complete we will be able to re-open Corn Hill."
