The Greens won by quite a margin, but how did they do it?published at 15:05 GMT

It was a huge success, a spectacular success for the Greens.
How did they do it? Crucially, they managed to convince enough people here that they were the most viable vehicle if you didn't want Reform UK to become the representatives for this part of Greater Manchester.
That was something of an achievement for the Greens because Labour were making the same case as well.
There was a danger for those who might describe themselves as progressives, broadly on the left of politics, that they would cannibalise each other's votes - and from their perspective, the danger would be that Reform could win as a result.
The Greens managed to convince enough people that they were that vehicle and actually, in the end, that they could not just win but win big.
They won comfortably. Plenty of people thought it would be a three horse race and quite close, but in the end, it wasn't. The Greens won by quite a margin.
